New bill would let cancer center open in state

Hoping for another shot at building a $150 million specialty hospital in Atlanta, a suburban Chicago-based hospital network is pushing legislation that would tweak state rules that govern hospital construction and new medical technology and services.

Senate Bill 433, introduced Feb. 8 by several legislative heavy hitters, including Senate Majority Leader Tommie Williams, proposed designating Cancer Treatment Centers of America Inc.'s planned facility as a destination cancer hospital that would attract at least 65 percent of its patients from outside Georgia.
